We had a great book signing in Olalla WA with NYT #1 best-selling true crime author Gregg Olsen<\/a> author last weekend for our new book Justice in the Age of Justice: From Amanda Knox to Kyle Rittenhouse and the Battle for Due Process in the Digital Age<\/a><\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gregg has a long history with my sister Anne Bremner as shown in this video<\/a> where at the book signing Gregg talked about how he first met Anne during the trial of Mary Kay Letourneau who, as we talked about in our book, was a school teacher who had an affair with her 12-year-old student. Gregg wrote a book called If Loving You is Wrong<\/a> about the case and he met Anne while he was attending the trial. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had breakfast with Gregg in Gig Harbor the day after the book signing, which is the only place you can have breakfast in the area since the Olalla Bay Landing where Gregg and his daughter Marta were trying to build a restaurant burned. No one knows how it happened. True crime? Anyhoo we had a nice talk about place and I told him about how after growing up in Olympia, Washington, I had been away on the East Coast for many years and then took a cross country road trip after medical school and was so glad to get back to Washington State and the first town I arrived in was Tiger, Washington, and as usual there was a Chinese Restaurant which is so typical of little towns in Washington State and I told the waitress how happy I was to be back and she looked totally bored. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyhoo I validated with Gregg the thing about feeling of place in Washington State and how that related to his feelings of connection to Olalla. In fact Gregg moved here in the 90s and wrote a book about a doctor<\/a> named Linda Laura Hazzard who had a sanitorium on the hills above Olalla called “Wilderness Heights” but which the locals called “Starvation Heights.” That’s the name of the book<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This woman didn’t actually have a medical degree but had been grandfathered in during the era when you didn’t have to have a medical degree to practice medicine. You can see her reflected in the window below on the left in the window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Olalla Bay Landing was bought by best selling author and local resident Gregg Olsen<\/a> but was burned in a mysterious fire. True crime, or not? No one knows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gregg recently invited my sister Anne Bremner and I to Olalla WA to do a book signing for our recently released book ‘Justice in the Age of Judgment: From Amanda Knox to Kyle Rittenhouse and the Battle for Due Process in the Digital Age’ on November 19, 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I travelled from my current home of Atlanta, Georgia, to Olalla, Washington, to attend the book signing, with my local lodgings at an AirBnB called ‘The Barn’. The Barn turned out to be what you might that it would be, which was cold and drafty. This led to Gregg’s inscription on my copy of Starvation Heights after I told him my story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyhoo Olalla Bay Landing will be reborn again with the indefatigable energy of Gregg Olsen and his family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Gregg Olsen was most gracious in sponsoring out book signing for Justice in the Age of Justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gregg has a couple of books that just came out and are hitting the best-seller lists, including I Know Where You Live<\/a><\/em>, about victims of childhood abuse getting revenge on their perpetrators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Childhood abuse is something I know about, as I wrote in a book for people with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) You Just Can’t Snap Out of It<\/a><\/em>. I’m a psychiatrist, if you haven’t figured that out already.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gregg also has coming out American Mother<\/a><\/em>, about a woman who killed her husband and another woman with pain pills laced with cyanide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
