Ruby<\/strong><\/p>\n

(a ghost town in the Okanogan Highlands of Washington State)<\/em><\/p>\n

There in Ruby
\nwe looked at what was left
\nof an old mining town.<\/p>\n

Later you said
\nyou had wanted me.<\/p>\n

right then and there.<\/p>\n

maybe against the car.<\/p>\n

it was beautiful, the fields
\nof golden grass.<\/p>\n

we\u2019ll never have that time again.<\/p>\n

and Ruby is a ghost town,
\nthat will not return to what it was.<\/p>\n

or be more than a few bricks,
\nlost in the weeds.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve had a lot of lovers in my life,
\nand so have you.<\/p>\n

I never asked you about them,
\nalthough I wanted to.<\/p>\n

we never made love in Ruby,
\nor what it was once was.<\/p>\n

with the bright blue sky,
\nover the golden grass.<\/p>\n

on the hills of the place,
\nthat once was Ruby.<\/p>\n

have you ever made love
\nwhile looking up at the bright blue sky?<\/p>\n

your lovers I will never know,
\ntheir memories would hurt me so.<\/p>\n

were they better than me?
\ndid they get you off?<\/p>\n

would my penis size
\nhave made them scoff?<\/p>\n

we never coupled,
\nin the grass.<\/p>\n

you didn\u2019t there, that day in Ruby.<\/p>\n

or in the place that once
\nwas the town of that name.<\/p>\n

Ruby is only pine trees now,
\nand golden fields of grass.<\/p>\n

I won\u2019t ask about the others.<\/p>\n

not now.<\/p>\n

how does a man you once loved,
\ncompare with a town that no longer exists?<\/p>\n
